UK first press 1974.
By 1976 Steeleye Span were going full tilt, and Rocket Cottage is one of their most rocking, rollicking sets. Traditional ballads given the electric folk treatment, fiddles duelling with guitars, and vocals that sound like they’ve been carved out of oak. It didn’t chart as high as their earlier records, but it’s become a bit of a cult favourite among fans who like their folk with extra crunch. FFO: folk tales told around a Marshall stack, Fairport Convention if they’d plugged into Spinal Tap’s amps, and pint-raising choruses that smell faintly of mead.
