The last and arguably best chapter of The Doors’ wild run. Bluesy, gritty, and soaked in late-night Los Angeles sleaze, L.A. Woman feels like a band staring down the end and somehow sounding freer than ever. Morrison’s voice is worn and glorious, the band’s playing is loose but locked in, and the title track still sounds like a road trip through madness. A proper swan song.
