2025 press.
The title undersells it. This 1964 Blue Note session is as out-there as anything the label released—an abstract, spacious follow-up to Evolution that swaps swing for slow tension and sharp corners. Moncur’s trombone leads a stacked band: Herbie Hancock sounding skeletal, Wayne Shorter in free mode, Cecil McBee and Tony Williams holding everything just above collapse. Free jazz, but still beautifully composed. OG mono press is rare; reissues still essential.
