The follow-up to Bring It On and proof the Mercury wasn’t a fluke. Liquid Skin takes Gomez’s scruffy charm and blows it out widescreen - swampy blues grooves, psychedelic flourishes, and that trademark mix of gravelly vocals and lush harmonies. It’s the sound of a band suddenly confident in their weirdness, swapping pub backrooms for bigger rooms without losing the smoke or the soul. Still one of the most quietly brilliant records of the late 90s.
