A cult UK jazz record if ever there was one. Originally released in 1967, this was pianist Mike Taylor’s debut and only proper trio album before his tragic early death. Properly ahead of its time — modal, exploratory, a bit untethered in places, but still lyrical. Think Bill Evans meets Joe Harriott down the pub with a pint and a few tabs. Taylor later wrote for Cream (!), but here it’s just him, bass, and drums locked into a quietly radical flow. A must for British jazz heads and beautifully reissued here by Decca. FFO: Bill Evans, Don Rendell & Ian Carr, Tubby Hayes, Keith Jarrett (early), Harold McNair
