John Cale went back to Music For A New Society and rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up, which is exactly the sort of thing John Cale would do. Same bones but now it’s colder, stranger and full of electronics, ghostly synths and bits that feel like they’re drifting around a dark room at 3am. It’s still bleak but in a different way. Less piano in the corner with a bottle of whisky, more flickering machines and distant voices. Odd, beautiful and a bit unsettling in that very Cale way.
