Baby Depeche Mode before the leather trousers and existential dread fully kicked in. Bright synths, pop hooks everywhere, and that slightly naive charm that only really exists on a debut. Still clever, still catchy, but lighter on its feet than what came later. It’s pure early 80s electronic pop optimism and it absolutely works.
