1988 and Slayer slowed it down just enough to make everything sound even nastier. Creeping riffs, doomy atmospheres, and plenty of the usual fire-and-brimstone mayhem. It’s the evil twin to Reign in Blood — less speed, more menace, still terrifying. FFO: Sabbath on speed, Metallica if they’d joined a cult, church sermons gone wrong, and anyone who thinks chugging riffs should summon demons.
