Malcolm Middleton back in his beautifully miserable bag here. Into The Woods is peak sad lad brilliance witty bleak funny self aware and somehow uplifting by accident. Proper Scottish indie songwriting with sharp wee turns of phrase warm guitars and that gentle punch in the feelings he’s disgustingly good at delivering. It is gloomy in all the right ways and secretly very cosy like putting on a big emotional cardigan and refusing to take it off till spring.
