Veteran drummer and multi-instrumentalist Fabio Nobile digs deep into Afro traditions and jazz freedom on Sankofa Soul. Inspired by the Akan word “Sankofa” - to look back in order to move forward — the record blends Afrobeat, funk and spiritual jazz into a rich, modern dialogue between past and present. Homages to Fela Kuti, echoes of Manu Dibango, and a strong Nigerian influence run throughout. Proper rootsy, groove-heavy and forward-looking.
