The moment The Police got a bit darker, weirder, and more paranoid - and somehow even catchier. All tight rhythms, echoing synths, and Sting sounding like he’s having an existential crisis over a funk groove. The reggae influence is still there, but everything’s more angular and shadowy, like the hangover after Zenyatta Mondatta. Proper early-80s brilliance that still sounds sharp as ever. FFO: Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, The Clash, Simple Minds, Japan, and anyone who’s ever danced to something while questioning the meaning of existence.
