Before the stadiums, sunglasses, and world-saving, there was Boy - raw, nervy post-punk energy straight out of Dublin. The guitars chime, the drums sound like they’re trying to outrun the lyrics, and Bono actually sounds like a kid figuring it all out in real time. It’s earnest, wide eyed, and completely unpolished, which is exactly what makes it magic. You can hear the ambition bursting out of every track. FFO: Echo & The Bunnymen, Simple Minds, The Sound, The Chameleons, Joy Division, and anyone who still believes bands can change the world with delay pedals.
