Peak stadium pop Genesis. By this point they’d fully shed the capes and time signatures and leaned into slick, radio-perfect songwriting. “Invisible Touch” and “Land of Confusion” are massive hooks with gated drums, but there’s still some of that old prog DNA hiding in tracks like “Domino.” It’s catchy, yes, but also a little weird around the edges if you squint. Phil Collins in full control and loving it.
FFO: ’80s Peter Gabriel with a smile, Yes going commercial, Tears for Fears if they lifted weights, yacht-prog done right
